Joseph And His Brothers

Jacob lived in the land, wherein his father was a stranger, that is the land of Canaan. Joseph being 17 years old was feeding the flock with his brothers, and bringing to his father, their evil reports. Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because Joseph was the son of old age, Israel made, a colorful coat for Joseph, Joseph‘s brothers hated him and could not speak peaceably, because his father loved him more than others
                             Joseph dreamed a dream, and told to his brothers ” We were binding Sheaves in the field my Sheaf rose and stood upright, and your Sheaves stood round and made obeisance to my Sheaf. ” then his brothers said to him, shall you indeed right over us? and they hated for his words. Joseph came with another dream and told to his brothers ” The Sun and The Moon and The 11stars made obeisance to me. His brothers said, will father and mother and brothers come to bow down you?
                              Joseph’s brothers went to feed there father‘s flock in Shechem, Joseph went in search of them and found them in dothan, but they conspired against him, to kill him, Reuben heard it and delivered him out of there hands, Joseph’s brothers took his coat and cast him into a pit, which is empty and without water. Judah advised his brothers to sell Joseph to Ishmeelites for 20 pieces of silver. Ishmeelites took Joseph to Egypt, finally he was sold to Potiphar. Thereafter his brothers dipped Joseph‘s coat in the blood of goat, and brought it to his father, Jacob believed his son Joseph was killed by an animal.

EL – Beth – EL

God said to Jacob arise and go to Bethel, and live there, and make an altar to the God. Jacob said to his family members, and others with him, to put away strange Gods and be clean, and change your garments. He further said, let us go to Bethel, and built a altar to the God, who answered me in the day of distress. Jacob came to Luz the land of Canaan, that is Bethel and built an altar there, called it EL – BETH – EL, because God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother. Again God appeared to Jacob and blessed him, and said to him, I am God almighty, be fruitful and multiply, and a nation and company of nations shall be of you, and kings shall come out of your Loins. And the Land  which I gave Abraham and Issac, to you I will give it, and for your children, I will give it after you, and God went up from him. Jacob setup a pillar in that place and poured oil thereon and called name of place Bethel.
                           They journeyed from Bethel, after some time Rachel was in hard labor and died after giving birth to Benjamin. Jacob set a pillar upon her grave, that is the pillar of Rachel‘s grave, unto this day. Jacob came to Mamre, the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Issac sojourned. After living 150years Issac died, his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
             ” God always fulfill his promises, but we have to wait with patience.

EL – Elohe – Israel

When Jacob lifted up his eyes, he saw Esau came with 400 men then Jacob divided his children, as per there mothers, Jacob passed over before them and bowed himself to the ground seven times. Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him and fell on his neck, and kissed him, both Jacob and Esau wept. Esau saw the women and children and said to Jacob, who are those with you? Jacob said the children are graciously given by God to your servant (Jacob). then Handmaidens and their children came near to Esau and bowed down themselves, thereafter Leah and Rachel did the same thing.
                    Esau enquired about the gifts sent by Jacob, Esau refused to accept the gifts, but Jacob requested to accept, finally Esau the gifts. Esau asked Jacob to continue his journey along with him, Jacob requested to come after some time, because children are tender, and flocks, and herds are young, and they may die, if i overdrive them. Esau offered to leave some some men for the help of Jacob but Jacob did not take, the Esau returned to Seir
                         Jacob journeyed to Succoth and built an house for him and made booths for his cattle, that is why the place is called Succoth. Jacob came to Shalem, the land of Canaan, pitched his tent before the city. He built an altar and named it EL – Elohe – Israel, means the God of Israel is God. 
                ” If we are in God, God make our enemies as our friends, as happened in case of Jacob and Esau.

Israel

On his way to his father‘s land Jacob met angels God, Jacob named that place Mahanaim. Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, to the country of Edom, with a fear of attack by Esau and offered him oxen, asses, flocks, men servants, women servants, as gift to Esau, but Jacob came to know, Esau is coming with 400 men to meet Jacob.
         Jacob prayed God to deliver him from the hand of Esau, Jacob thought Esau may come and kill all his family, so that he divided his belongings in two groups, so that if one group is destroyed, the other group may survive. Jacob roseup in the night, took his two wives and two women servants, 11 sons and passed over the ford Jabbok, he sent that over the brook and remaind alone, there he wrestled with a man until the breaking of the day, the man who wrestled with Jacob touched the hollow of his thigh so that Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, the man said with Jacob, let me go, because the day is going to break, Jacob said ‘ I will not let you go until you bless me. the man asked him, what is your name? then Jacob answer i am Jacob, the man said, your no more called Jacob but ISRAEL, for as a prince has you power with God and with man and has prevailed. There after God blessed Jacob. Jacob name that place Peniel means he has seen God face to face.
       ” We should be in prayer and should leave the prayer, until we are blessed by God.  ”

Galeed, Mizpah, Jegar – Sahadutha

Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying Jacob had taken all that of their father’s. God said to Jacob to return to his father‘s land, Jacob called his wives and told the words of God, Jacob wives said to do what God had said to Jacob. Jacob set his sons and his wives on camels and taken all the things he got in Padan-Aram and started  to go to land of Canaan, without informing to his fatherin-law. Rachel had stolen the images that were of her father. Laban came to know on the third day that Jacob was fled. Laban gathered his brothers and pursued after him seven days journey, and over took him in mount Gilead. God appeared to Laban in a dream and said to him ” You should not speak to Jacob either good or bad. both Jacob and Laban pitched there tents in the mount of Gilead. Laban said to Jacob, what had you done? you have carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword, you flee away secretly, and did not tell anything to me, i would have sent you away with Mirth, and with songs, with Tabret and Harp, and further said the God of your father spoke to me yesterday night saying not to speak good or bad with you and blamed him theft of his Gods images
                        Jacob answered and said to Laban, because i was afraid, if i said, you would have taken your daughters from me by force, and refused the theft of his Gods and allowed Laban to verify the tents of all his family members, Laban did not find anywhere, Rachel managed to hide them, then Jacob said to Laban what is my trespass? What is my sin you had pursued after me? and told how he served all the 20 years honestly
                          Laban said to Jacob, let us make a covenant, then Jacob took a stone and set it up for a pillar and asked his brothers to gather stones and made an heap. Laban called it JegarSahadutha and Jacob called it Galeed. Laban said this heap is a witness between me and you therefore it is called Galeed. The God watch between me and you, when we are absent one another so it is called Mizpah. Jacob offered sacrifice on the mount and called his brothers to eat the bread, they ate and tarried all the night in mount. In the morning Laban rose up and kissed his sons and daughters and blessed them, then he departed to his place.
             ” When God is with us nobody can touch us.

Birth of Joseph

When Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Jacob asked Laban to send him to his own country, along with his wives an children. All the days Jacob worked for the development of Laban and his family, but not developed anything for his own family and his children. Laban said i was blessed by the God because of you, i want to fix your salary the way you want. Then Jacob asked for cattle which are speckled and spotted as his salary. Then Jacob started feeding the cattle of Laban, and separated speckled and spotted cattle and kept them aside, from the day Jacob reached the agreement with Laban, all the cattle gave birth to strong, speckled and spotted. by the grace of God Jacob increased menservants, maidservant, cattle, camels and asses.

               ” When God is with us he blesses us as well as other people also, who are living with us. ”

Jacob and Rachel

As per the voice of his father and mother, Jacob went to Haran, in search of Laban, son of Nahor. there he found some Shepperd, through them he met Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother’s brother. Jacob introduced himself to Rachel, then Rachel ran and told about Jacob. Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister‘s son, he ran to meet him and invited him to his house. Laban had two daughters by name Leah  and Rachel, Jacob loved Rachel for her he served Laban for seven years, then asked Laban to give Rachel as his wife. Laban gathered men of the place and made a feast, in the evening Laban gave his daughter Leah to Jacob in the darkness, in the morning Jacob came to know Laban gave him Leah instead of Rachel. When Jacob questioned Laban about the mischief, Laban said it is the tradition of the country to marry elder daughter first. Jacob served Laban another seven years to get Rachel as his wife, Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah. when God saw that Leah was hated, God open her womb, she gave birth to a son by name Reuben and Leah believed, she will be loved by her husband. There after she gave birth to Simeon, Levi, Judah
                 ” God blesses the people whom he loves, but not the people whom we love.

Jacob and Bethel

Issac called Jacob and blessed him and asked him not to marry the daughters of Canaan, and asked him to go to Padan-Aran the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father and get a wife from daughters of Laban, yours mother‘s brother. Jacob obeyed his father and mother and went to Padan-Aran. Jacob went towards Haran, because of sunset he slept, by making a stone as his pillow. In the dream he saw a ladder setup on the earth, the top of the ladder reached to haven and angels of God are ascending and descending on it, Lord stood above the ladder and said  ” I am The God of Abraham, your father and God of Issac and I give this land to you and your children. Your children shall be dust of the earth, and your childred spared abroad all sides of the place. I will not leave you until i have done, which i have spoken to you. Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and said this is the place of God and afraid this is the house of God, Gate of haven. Jacob rose-up early in the morning and took the stone that he used as pillow, and set it up as pillar and poured oil upon it, Jacob named that place Bethel, but the name of the city is Luz. Jacob vowed a vow saying God is with and keep me in this way that i go, i will surely give onetenth of my earnings.
             ” This is the promised made by Jacob for giving one-tenth of his earnings as offering to the God. ”
